A combination collection of my favorite things from both Holland Haus and NLS: natural specimens and upcycling – finished in a luxurious modern aesthetic.
Each art piece features a meticulously cleaned designer makeup case carefully paired with a specially selected natural specimen. Each piece is custom matted on a mirror, pre-framed, and ready to hang!
‘Mercier Morpho’ features a Laura Mercier palette filled with Blue Morpho Butterfly wings.
This collection has been almost a year in the making between drying flowers, treating wings, and picking just the right seashells and stone.
‘Contour & Babies Blush’ features a Dior palette with Tiger Longwing Butterfly wings and pink Babies Breath flowers.
Designed to showcase the liminal space between the natural world and the superficial human world by harmoniously juxtaposing the two.
‘Carribean Calcite Addict’ features a Dior Addict tube with Carribean Blue Calcite “lipstick”.
In adage to the original designers, each piece is named in reference to the initial product that it was upcycled from.
‘Coco Seashells Sample Lip Palette’ features different shades of abalone shell paired with coordinating Chanel sample color names.
Not only does matting on mirrors appear elevated, but it was intentionally done as a nod to where makeup is generally applied – in front of a mirror. Additionally, I chose mirrors so that the viewer could see themselves in-between the superficial and natural; not just literally but metaphorically, as we too are increasingly becoming a balancing act between the two.
